Gingerbread House fun!!!

A wonderful activity for a Queen this holiday season would be making gingerbread houses with children , whether it be in a class room, a church youth group, or even the Boys and Girls club! A simple phone call to the administration could grant you a enjoyable community appearance. Children love candy, they love hands on activities and it will result in a tasteful treat for everyone involved! This activity is fairly cheap if you can purchase the jumbo size bags of candy, a few containers of cake frosting and a few boxes of graham crackers. Its a guaranteed great time that we are certain the children will remember for years to come. Remember to take tons of pictures, wear your sash and have a great time!

Holiday Support letters!

During these tough economic times it can be very difficult and stressful preparing for a national competition, Despite the headaches , continue to develop new ideas of how to gain your community's support in your quest to become Miss Black USA 2008. This holiday season, when making your Christmas list ask Santa to bring you cash or gift cards. This will help you be able to begin purchasing your pageant week wardrobe, amongst the countless other items you will need during pageant week. Request gift cards from MAC or Claires ,as a delegate you will spend more money than expected on accessories and quality stage make-up. Another great idea is to send a Holiday letter to every one in your family along with family friends wishing them a happy holiday, and informing them that this holiday season you are seeking support in your pageant endeavors. If possible you should include a photograph of yourself with your crown and sash as well. Even if they are unable to contribute at this time they may be able to contribute before you depart for Nationals. Always keep in mind that the worst someone can say is no. In the words of our founder Ms. Karen Arrington "if you don't ask someone else will". Even in the worst situations it is just good to let people know you want and need this support both monetary and physically. Happy Holidays!!!

Welcome to the Miss Black USA Family
Miss Black Talented Teen California USA 2009
Brittney Williams!!
Have a wonderful time at the National competition,
We are certain you will make your state very proud!

No-Slip Grip!

As expected, every queen will be packing dozens of classy stilettos for pageant week, whether they be for her interview suit, or her opening number attire! No matter where or what she is doing every Queen desires to avoid the nightmare plunge on a slick floor in front of crowds and gasping on lookers. A helpful trick to keep your strut on the upside would be to use the sandpaper adhesives on the bottom of all your pageant shoes!
These shoes help prevent slipping on wet or slick floors. They are quick and easy to apply and most of all they will fit and work on every shoe size no matter if the shoes are new or old. You can easily purchase a pair of these mishap preventers at your local shoe store like Aldo or Bakers for around $5.00. Majority of the time when you purchase a pair of shoes at any retailer, they will have a brand of No-Slip grips for sale, and may be cheaper when purchasing a pair of shoes, therefore it is a good idea to keep that in mind when your out shopping for all your pageant pumps!!!

Kristen is on the Move!!

New Countdown

http://www.createyourcountdown.com/

From the Days remaining.... until the seconds!!!

The Excitement is beginning to boil over!!!

Great place to Introduce yourself to the community

Winning the crown is only the icing on the cake to the power of influence that you have gained by becoming the Queen of your state. Now that your pageant is over and you have been crowned Queen of your state it is time for you to double your community presence! By contacting your local elementary school, and speaking with the teachers/or administration there you may be invited to come read books or have lunch with the pupils of a class. Young children are easily influenced by the people they encounter in there lives especially during these tender years of there lives. Meeting the Queen of their state will be a memory each of the students carry with them for the rest of their lives. Not only will this be a moment the children jump off the school bus to run home and tell their parents about, however it will also encourage the children that their dreams may not be as far fetched as they may seem at a day and time such as now. Visiting the local school will give more exposure to the Miss Black USA organization as well as yourself. It would be a great idea to bring Comp cards with you to each place you visit, especially elementary schools, because the children are certain to desire autographs from the star that stands before them! It is almost a sure fact the children will show off your comp card to everyone in their household along with anyone they meet that day, so its ultimately a great day for the both of you!!!

Inspiring words written by our very own...

Anita Baker once said that when she performed she became the woman she always wanted to be. Reba McIntyre said that in every great woman is an even greater woman holding the two together. I concur with both thoughts and for me that woman is K.O.K.O. Now understand, everyone has an alter-ego or a force inside them that drives them, EVERYONE... I just named mine and yes it's an acronym; but that's a different story;0). K.O.K.O. is the person that walks on a stage and is immediately at home. She can enter a room and know no stranger. She is the part of me I strive to be in all endeavors; strong, clever, resilient, fearless, resourceful, unphased, unmatched, a force of nature. As my sister would say, a true NST (no s&*t taker). In a perfect world she is who I am all the time. Truth be told she has a power that even overwhelms me at times. But with maturity comes an understanding of her prowess and an ability to guide her free-spirited willingness to live life on "10". Admittedly, some of my greatest achievements, accomplishments and experiences have come from her philosophy of leap first ask later. However, in recognizing her dominant presence, I digress to acknowledge it on occasion. Recently, I was speaking at a seminar for educational leaders and afterwards one of the attendees (whom I later found out was a Superintendent of one of the school systems present) came to me and posed the question, "Do you think you're great?" My natural reaction was, "I'm alright I guess", as we all chuckled. I mean who really comes out and says, "Why yes I am great actually, thanks for asking"? That's just pompous, obnoxious, totally void of humility, even if you do believe that of yourself...right? Well, after the uncomfortable giggling subsided she grabbed my hand, looked me squarely in the eyes and said.."Find an answer, an honest one. It's in you and when you discover it, never deny it". Surely she wasn't speaking of K.O.K.O. was she? That would just be weird. Keeping in mind that she's great to me, but who else would venture to think such a thing? For all the characteristics that make her intriguing she is also armed with eccentricities that make her a quirky, daredevilish, motley loner. Well, that was her point. I could discredit the K.O.K.O in me to my heart's content, but she's still great and she's still me....period.
It is imperative that as human beings on this earth we find our greatness. In turn, share that with the world, whatever the form we find it in whether it be through service, or creation, or nurturing the same in others. Dually, it is just as important to understand it and not allow things or people to make us negate its existence in all of us, no matter the scale. Never should there be a need to convince others of what God so diligently and precisely put in us. My K.O.K.O's philosophy is good, but this is better...2 Timothy 1:7-- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. So to make a short story shorter, do not fear the greatness that is in you..it's there for a reason;0).

-Kristen E. White, as K.O.K.O : )

Every Queen must exercise her body, her mind... and her right to VOTE!

As the top two Presidential Candidates duke it out these last 48 hours prior to polls opening nation-wide, It is vitally important that every queen plan on casting their vote on Tuesday, November 4th 2008. If your state has early voting be sure certain to cast your ballot tomorrow to avoid any additional wait time, or problems that may occur on Election Day.

This election will change the life of every Queen, (past, present and future).Whether we elect our first African American President or our first woman Vice President, their policies and plans for America will change our lives drastically.Unless you are living under a rock, (which is highly unlikely living the life of a Queen) you have watched the debates, you have attended and/or watched the rallies, you have visited the candidates websites... Now is the time that you chose which candidate will present the best future for you.

If you have already cast your ballot, help someone else get to the polls, go door knocking for your candidate, Encourage those who are standing in the the long lines to stay in line by reminding them how vitally important their vote is. All of us live in the day of technology, therefore if it is easier for you to send a quick email, a few text messages then do so to spread the excitement and encouragement to get out and let their voice be heard as every Queen (past present and future) should.

Kristen on Tyler Perry's House of Payne

The most inspiring Rags to Riches story behind Tyler Perry's life has not only been a blessing to every person who has seen his movies, but also in the homes of every person who has watched " House of Payne of the small screen. Now we will be blessed with the best of both worlds by having our very own Miss Black USA 2008 Kristen E. White on the best show since Sister-Sister and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air!!! : ) Kristen taped her role on the television show just days ago on October 20th. It would be wise to bank on this episode being the most watch of all time!!! Kristen is one of the most talented young women in the world! Don't be surprised if she is the next BIG artist out of Atlanta, Georgia singing notes next to those of the early 90's Whitney Houston !! Now she is blessed to also expose her talent of acting ... Ciara, Beyonce.. Watch out, Miss Black USA is on her way!!!!

Tyler Perry, became a supporter of the Miss Black USA organization during the 2008 pageant, and offered a walk on role on his Hit television show to the winner of last years competition. It would be inconsiderate not to thank Mr. Perry for this opportunity. Tyler Perry's life, movies, and now television show has contributed to countless laughs, and house hold jokes around the world. Words cannot express the gratefulness the Miss Black USA organization has obtained by Mr. Tyler Perry allowing our reigning Queen to play a role in his television show! May God continue to bless Kristen in her career long beyond her role on the show. May God continue to bless Tyler Perry in each of his endeavors and continue to use him to bless the world with healing laughter.

Once the date of airing is released it will immediately be reveled here on the blogspot to ensure every supporter of the Miss Black USA organization will be near a television anxiously awaiting our reigning queen to grace the small screen!!

November brings NEW President and New Queens!

Many of our current Queens will be passing on their beautiful crowns to the next deserving young lady of their state!!!! While we are all excited about this year's Presidential election we are even more excited to welcome the next queens to the family. Miss Black Texas, Miss Black Iowa, and our lovely Miss Black Georgia ( our reigning Miss Black USA ) have served our communities, our states and our nation beautifully and proudly during their reign. All of us in the MBUSA organization are certain, who ever the next talented young lady is to receive each crown will carry on the tradition of leadership, community service and beauty. Be sure to check back frequently to view the winner of each state pageant. Good to all the contestants!!!!!

Great networking websites

As a At-Large delegate, and even a state pageant winner, a fantastic website to promote your platform while reaching the Miss Black USA target age group would be Myspace.com! Creating a account, will grant you the opportunity to network with many other pageant queens, pageant coaches, not to mention thousands of other connections The best part of all this option is open to you for the lowest cost available.... FREE!!! Here you can upload pictures of yourself at appearances and meet other delegates that have competed in the Miss Black USA pageant, in addition to the beautiful delegates that will be competing with you!

Another great website would be Facebook.com. On this site you will be able to create a support group of all your friends, family, and sponsors and within this group you will be able to update the members of your latest activities as the queen of your state. You may easily send a message to each and every member of your support group my a few simple clicks of the mouse! These types of group can contribute tremendous encouragement and inspiration while you try to fulfill the dream of becoming the next Miss Black USA!!!! On both websites be sure to add your current Queen Kristen White as a friend, surely it would be beneficial!

Using free websites and networks will always help due to the fact that its a great way to promote yourself, and platform while exposing the Miss Black USA Pageant to even more potential future delegates. Take advantage of these networks!! Take advantage as of these sites as a measure to save money while making major connections!!!

Gaining sponsorships as a At-Large-Delegate

The first thing to remember when trying to gain sponsorships is "NOT" to be afraid to ask. The worst thing a business or person can say is No. If that is their response... do not get discouraged, continue to ask people for their contribution to your efforts to gain a academic scholarship through the Miss Black USA Pageant.

The first companies to request a sponsorship from, would be the the businesses that you frequent and support the most. Your hair salon, your family doctor and/or dentist would also be a great places to start as well. Keep in mind that your place of employment, your parents' company in addition to locally owned businesses are wonderful ideas to begin your search for sponsorships. These companies should be happy to support a company that has supported them over the years. Try to set up a appointment (if possible) with the owner or the decision-maker for the company. Once set, prepare to explain your title, your platform, what you could win (scholarship) and what opportunities you will have as the next Miss Black USA. Inform the Manager/Owner that you need as much physical and financial support as possible to guarantee the best representative of your beautiful state during the National competition.

Make sure you wear your crown and sash to the appointment with the business owner/manager. It is also helpful to bring in writing the same information you explain in the appointment (title, platform information on MBUSA, and Sponsorship request) Just in case they are not able to give you a definite answer at that time, they will still be able to look over the information after you have returned home. Whether, the owner/manager agrees to contribute to your dream be sure to thank them for their time.

Always ask for help and contributions where needed, Always remember if you do not ask.. Someone else will. Great wishes!!!! Stay Encouraged!!

Gaining Exposure as a At-Large Delegate

Trying to gain exposure as a At-Large Delegate can a be a very difficult task, However using your resources is a must. What you are looking for may be right under your nose. If your personal resources are limited.... Create them! Networking and promoting yourself as much as your platform should be first on your list! It is so important that it needs to be mentioned again... NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK! Always keep your crown and sash with you, you may never know who will meet!
Another great method of gaining exposure, would be to contact a local journalist for your hometown and/or University newspaper. Send an email informing them of your title, your platform and your request of support from your hometown community or School. Let them know that you are open to make appearances at Grand Openings, Assemblies, Youth Group Meetings, Special Events etc. Be sure to attach a photograph of yourself with your crown and sash, while also leaving your contact information as well! Many times this will result in a personal interview whether over the phone or in person with newspaper editors.
