Queens must always "Talk the Talk and Walk the Walk" as role models and mentors for the younger generation! Now is a great time to start scheduling your community services events, and public speaking engagements. Our young African American girls need positive role models in their community, and you are the PERFECT lady for the job. Now that Disney has finally stepped up and created a African American Princess for young girls to admire, We as queens should be more visible than ever in our communities, proving to girls "African American Queens and Princesses really do exist". The Miss Black Tennessee Scholarship Organization is proud to announce the crowing of LaDonna Yvette Boyd as the new Miss Black Tennessee USA 2009 on October 25 in Nashville. This marks her first step into a journey that will take her across the state of Tennessee and beyond as she advances to the Miss Black USA national competition in 2010.Boyd, a native of Nashville, is an alumna of Spelman College and is currently pursuing her MBA from Belmont University Massey Graduate School of Business. For her talent, she performed a classical flute composition. She is the daughter of Dr. T.B. and Yvette Boyd.

Boyd now shares the prestigious title with the first crowned Miss Black Tennessee, Oprah Winfrey, for which a special award was presented and accepted on her behalf by her father Vernon Winfrey and his wife Dr. Barbara Winfrey at this year's pageant at Hotel Preston.

Elaine Cato, board chair of the Miss Black Tennessee Scholarship Organization, believes Boyd will have much success with the organization behind her. "I'm very excited about the upcoming reign for our new queen. Our organization leads the pack as a supporting source of college funding by providing scholarships for African American women and offering an avenue for educational advancement and creative expression through community involvement. With our collaborative efforts we produce a wonderful pageant and offer a great experience for our contestants to reflect on for the rest of their lives," she said.

NOW CASTING dynamic families with teenagers for their own reality series!!! We are specifically, looking for families with teens who have participated in pageants.
Have you been told your family is just like The Osbournes and you should have your own show?
The producers of “Supernanny” and “The Real Housewives of New York” are looking to give one amazing family their own show! This documentary-style series will take a look at an American family and the issues that they face in their day-to-day lives including their relationships, challenges, laughter and tears that comes with being a family.
We are currently looking for outgoing, opinionated and outspoken families with teenagers who are ready to step into the spotlight. Families of ALL types are welcome, but there must be at least a few teens living in the home.
I am a casting producer looking to give an amazing family their own TV series, not one episode or just a small segment, but an e ntire series. The California State Pageant

FOREVER 21 sponsored fashion shoot

April 11th 2009

in downtown

Los Angeles

And want all the other Queens to join them!!!

Due to the generosity of Forever 21 we have access to more clothes than we will need so we are extending the opportunity to other state titleholders to come join us for the shoot.
We will be taking group shots for the 50 Million Pound Challenge, Heart Truth Campaign, and fashion shots of Evening Gown and cocktail dresses also
For anyone interested in coming the rate of the day is 75.00 for a crown head shot, 150 for 3 looks or 50 for all of the group shots.

Arizona Queen at the Phoenix Start Heart Walk!!

This past weekend our Beautiful Arizona Queen Ms. Perkins participated in the "Phoenix Start! Heart Walk" partnership with American Heart Association. "They say try walking a mile in her shoes, but while flaunting her passion for Heart disease Miss Black Arizona USA, walked THREE miles to help find a cure for Heart Disease. The state of Arizona has over $535,000 dollars raised this year which is over a half a million dollars in just three months!We are proud to know within the thousands of supporters that participated in this event, our Queen was contributing to the great cause as well!! As Ms. Perkins would say "Heart Disease better watch out, because a cure is definitely on the way!"

A wonderful activity for a Queen this holiday season would be making gingerbread houses with children , whether it be in a class room, a church youth group, or even the Boys and Girls club! A simple phone call to the administration could grant you a enjoyable community appearance. Children love candy, they love hands on activities and it will result in a tasteful treat for everyone involved! This activity is fairly cheap if you can purchase the jumbo size bags of candy, a few containers of cake frosting and a few boxes of graham crackers. Its a guaranteed great time that we are certain the children will remember for years to come. Remember to take tons of pictures, wear your sash and have a great time!

During these tough economic times it can be very difficult and stressful preparing for a national competition, Despite the headaches , continue to develop new ideas of how to gain your community's support in your quest to become Miss Black USA 2008. This holiday season,when making your Christmas list ask Santa to bring you cash or gift cards. This will help you be able to begin purchasing your pageant week wardrobe, amongst the countless other items you will need during pageant week. Request gift cards from MAC or Claires ,as a delegate you will spend more money than expected on accessories and quality stage make-up. Another great idea is to send a Holiday letter to every one in your family along with family friends wishing them a happy holiday, and informing them that this holiday season you are seeking support in your pageant endeavors. If possible you should include a photograph of yourself with your crown and sash as well. Even if they are unable to contribute at this time they may be able to contribute before you depart for Nationals. Always keep in mind that the worst someone can say is no. In the words of our founder Ms. Karen Arrington "if you don't ask someone else will". Even in the worst situations it is just good to let people know you want and need this support both monetary and physically. Happy Holidays!!!

As expected, every queen will be packing dozens of classy stilettos for pageant week, whether they be for her interview suit, or her opening number attire! No matter where or what she is doing every Queen desires to avoid the nightmare plunge on a slick floor in front of crowds and gasping on lookers. A helpful trick to keep your strut on the upside would be to use the sandpaper adhesives on the bottom of all your pageant shoes!

These shoes help prevent slipping on wet or slick floors. They are quick and easy to apply and most of all they will fit and work on every shoe size no matter if the shoes are new or old. You can easily purchase a pair of these mishap preventers at your local shoe store like Aldo or Bakers for around $5.00. Majority of the time when you purchase a pair of shoes at any retailer, they will have a brand of No-Slip grips for sale, and may be cheaper when purchasing a pair of shoes, therefore it is a good idea to keep that in mind when your out shopping for all your pageant pumps!!!

The Miss Black Arizona Organization is hosting a four day toy drive for the Keys Community!!!!

Our Very Own Miss Black Arizona, Brittanee Perkins, and Miss Black Talented Teen Arizona Rozan Latham will be delivering this precious gifts to the Keys Community Center Saturday, Therefore please help these ladies collect as many toys as possible by 4:00 today!!

They should be dropped off at the Miss Black Arizona office at 2907 N. Second Street Phoenix Arizona 85021 by 4pm today!

Winning the crown is only the icing on the cake to the power of influence that you have gained by becoming the Queen of your state. Now that your pageant is over and you have been crowned Queen of your state it is time for you to double your community presence! By contacting your local elementary school, and speaking with the teachers/or administration there you may be invited to come read books or have lunch with the pupils of a class. Young children are easily influenced by the people they encounter in there lives especially during these tender years of there lives. Meeting the Queen of their state will be a memory each of the students carry with them for the rest of their lives. Not only will this be a moment the children jump off the school bus to run home and tell their parents about, however it will also encourage the children that their dreams may not be as far fetched as they may seem at a day and time such as now. Visiting the local school will give more exposure to the Miss Black USA organization as well as yourself. It would be a great idea to bring Comp cards with you to each place you visit, especially elementary schools, because the children are certain to desire autographs from the star that stands before them! It is almost a sure fact the children will show off your comp card to everyone in their household along with anyone they meet that day, so its ultimately a great day for the both of you!!!
